Extension of MATY-3.0 Scheme

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced an extension of the 'Mukhyamantri Adibandha Tiyari Yojana (MATY)-3.0' for an additional five years, covering the period from 2025-26 to 2029-30.

This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

The Water Resources Department presented a proposal highlighting that the initiative aims to ensure reliable irrigation for farmers who typically rely on temporary cross-bunds across streams.

Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja informed the media that the initiative includes plans to build 3,313 new check dams and enhance 3,529 existing ones, which will create an additional irrigation potential of 57,525 hectares and restore 41,713 hectares of current irrigation capacity.

In addition to irrigation, these check dams will also supply drinking water to villages during the post-monsoon season, support groundwater recharge, and improve kharif irrigation in areas facing water scarcity.

The total estimated budget for this scheme is Rs 2,738.00 crore, which is anticipated to benefit farmers and boost agricultural productivity in the state.

The Cabinet also approved various proposals from the law, finance, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) departments.
